Tyson's Place Animal RescueFunded 2016, 2017, 2024
Based in Michigan, Tyson's Place Animal Rescue is a small, foster-based rescue with a unique mission of assisting terminally ill people with caring for and finding new families for their pets. They help pet owners entering assisted living, nursing homes, and hospice and provide care for beloved pets after the owner has passed away.
The Grey Muzzle grant will help terminally ill people cover the cost of their senior dogs’ veterinary care, including preventative care, treatment of minor medical issues, and dental cleanings. Volunteers will provide transportation to and from the veterinary clinic. The grant will help dogs like nine-year-old Tate, whose elderly owner passed away. The owner's daughter, who quit her job to care for her mother, could not afford his vet care. Tyson’s Place covered the cost of bloodwork, vaccinations, and antibiotics for a urinary tract infection, allowing Tate to remain with his family. Grey Muzzle funding will enable people to stay with their pets longer, alleviate unnecessary suffering of senior dogs, and ease the transition to a rescue or other home if and when that is needed.
