Silverstray is the silver lining for Gary's pets before they wind up on the street, sick, or in an overwhelmed shelter. They are dedicated to offering essential services such as free spay/neuter, microchips and vaccines, and TNR to underserved pet families in Gary, Indiana. Many of these families have been marginalized or overlooked, and Silverstray is committed to combating economic and racial inequalities. They believe everyone should be able to experience the profound benefits and joy of the human-animal bond. By providing greater access to care, they improve community-wide health.
The Grey Muzzle grant will foster a caring culture and serve as a lifeline for underserved senior dog families in Gary, many of whom live in a veterinary desert and have not had access to care in decades. It will ensure that these families are kept together, providing much-needed support. The grant will help prevent disease outbreaks, address the challenge of unwanted litters being had by senior dogs, and ease the burden on local animal control agencies. It will empower pet owners with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their pets' care, thereby enhancing the community's overall health.
