    Location

The Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) serves the Omaha, NE metro area.  An open-entry shelter, NHS takes a holistic approach that is focused on achieving the best medical and behavioral outcomes for the thousands of animals treated each year. In 2023, 12,280 domestic animals came to NHS, averaging 551 animals in their care each day. NHS provides services and resources to their community, including adoptions, dog training classes, a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, a behavior helpline, and free community programs serving pets of domestic violence survivors, veterans, low-income elderly, and neighbors experiencing economic crisis.

A Grey Muzzle grant will fund NHS's prevention and intake diversion program, keeping senior dogs in their homes with their people. NHS aims to help when a senior dog has a medical issue their guardian can’t afford to address, or an ill pet owner needs help to care for their dog while they receive medical treatment. These efforts are part of a compassionate strategy to keep dogs like nine-year-old Kam in their homes and out of the shelter.
