Founded in 1931, the Humane Society of Sonoma County (HSSC) has a longstanding tradition of offering hope to animals in need of a second chance. Their mission is to save lives and promote the well-being of pets and their people with kindness, innovation, and leadership. In addition to comprehensive medical care and behavior support for homeless animals on the journey to forever homes, HSSC provides resources, including affordable spay/neuter services, veterinary care for low- to no-income pet owners, and a free pet food and supply pantry to help keep pets out of the shelter and in the arms of the families who love them.

The Grey Muzzle grant will enable HSSC’s Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC) to provide dental procedures for senior dogs whose owners are at risk of surrendering their beloved companions because they cannot afford veterinary care. Approximately 25% of clients who come to the CVC request dental care for their pets. Many of these senior dogs have had their dental care deferred for years. As a result, they’ve often stopped eating due to painful teeth and gums, and their owners are concerned. Dental procedures, including extractions, provide immediate relief and improve the quality of life for senior dogs. HSSC is honored and grateful to partner with Grey Muzzle to help beloved senior dogs like Junior.
