Doberman Underground RescueFunded in 2024
Doberman Underground is the largest Doberman rescue in Ohio. It was formed to rescue Dobermans from abusive or neglectful situations. They prioritize taking in dogs with the greatest needs from shelters, pounds, and owner surrenders. Doberman Underground adopts dogs to pre-approved adopters in Ohio and Michigan, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and New York counties.
The Grey Muzzle grant will help Doberman Underground continue to support and expand its Seniors Owning Seniors (SOS) program. This program matches senior adopters (70+) with senior dogs (7+). Seniors are required to have prior experience owning Dobermans. The SOS program covers the cost of medications, prescription foods, heartworm prevention, and annual vet visits.
SOS continues to help senior dogs like Reagan. Reagan was a stray who got caught in an animal trap. She bravely chewed off her leg to escape. A good Samaritan took her to a shelter, and then she came to Doberman Underground, where vets devised a complicated treatment plan for Reagan. She had heartworm treatment, a benign mass removed, dental extractions, and finally, an amputation of her stump. Fully recovered, Reagan found her forever home and helped heal her new senior owner’s heart from the recent loss of his beloved Doberman. Recently, Reagan had a cancerous mass removal, and Doberman Underground paid most of the vet bill, which her owner could not afford. These senior humans and dogs have so much love for each other. The Grey Muzzle grant will ensure this program continues to grow!
