Founded in 2013,BirchBark Foundation (BBF) protects and honors the human-animal bond through its three core programs. First, in collaboration with local veterinary partners that discount their services, BirchBark offers financial assistance to economically vulnerable families faced with emergency veterinary expenses. Second, BirchBark offers comfort and solace to all pet families through its no-cost grief support program for people who have lost a pet. Finally, BirchBark's free educational webinars empower pet families to be the best possible advocates for their pets' health and wellness.
Grey Muzzle's grant funds will be used to launch a new program offering veterinary care to owned senior dogs living in low-income senior housing facilities on the Central Coast of California. By targeting economically and medically vulnerable senior dogs like Pirate, BirchBark aims to maintain the dogs' health and to prevent illness and disease from progressing to a point where the dogs' quality of life suffers or where the cost of treatment forces families to consider surrender or economic euthanasia.
